Recycle Saturday

Saturday, December 7 - 8:00 am to 12:00 pm

Wesselman Nature Society partners with the Vanderburgh County Solid Waste District to conduct monthly drop off recycling opportunities at various sites throughout Vanderburgh County for the convenience of county residents. Revenues from the sale of these items are used to fund the Nature Society’s programs. We appreciate your recycling efforts and hope you will make Wesselman your recycling center!

Accepted Items
Aluminum cans
Metal food cans
Newspapers, including inserts that come in the paper
Plastic bottles, only #1 – #7 plastic – milk jugs, laundry detergent bottles, and soda bottles. Bottles that contained a hazardous material (bleach, antifreeze) cannot be accepted.
Magazines and catalogs
Junk mail, notebook paper, wrapping paper, copy paper, envelopes, flyers.
Cardboard and paperboard, including cereal boxes.  Remove all styrofoam & plastic.
Shredded paper
Telephone books
We ask that you please separate these items by the material types listed above and place into separate bags or boxes. Paper shopping bags work best for this. Flatten boxes before you arrive if possible. Please be sure items are clean and dry. No styrofoam or plastic bags.

Nature Journaling (ages 6 – 11)

Sunday, December 8 - 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm

Connecting Our Story to Nature: Journaling to Understand Science is a yearlong nature journaling program, supported by a grant from Indiana Humanities. This program will provide opportunities for learners to notice, wonder, and connect to the world around them through the seasons. Each session will begin with a naturalist providing a nature artifact, quote, an excerpt from a nature writer’s work, or physical experience and will continue as students record observations and reflections using writing, drawing, painting, or other methods…

Connecting Our Story to Nature: Journaling to Understand Science is a yearlong nature journaling program, supported by a grant from Indiana Humanities. This program will provide opportunities for learners to notice, wonder, and connect to the world around them through the seasons. Each session will begin with a naturalist providing a nature artifact, quote, an excerpt from a nature writer’s work, or physical experience and will continue as students record observations and reflections using writing, drawing, painting, or other methods of creative expression.

Journaling both teaches us how to think more scientifically and allows us to connect with our subjects through art and language. Additional prompts and learning tools will be shared via a private facebook group for enrolled participants. A nominal fee of $12 per person will hold your spot for the entire year of programming. Class sizes are limited and registration closes on January 4.

Classes for adults will meet from 12:30 – 2:00 PM on the following Sundays – please make every effort to attend all the sessions:
