Trails & Tales Preschool Program

Trails & Tales is a seasonal nature celebration that connects children ages 3-5 to their natural world. For 1 hour every week for 6 weeks at Wesselman Woods Nature Preserve, children will play and learn through indoor and outdoor exploratory activities and physical movements. Activities include stories, games, art projects and hands-on investigations. A caregiver must stay with the child during the class.

Pre-enrollment is required for the 6-week series, and space is limited to 15 children per class. Each series is $25 per child for members, or $30 per child for non-members.

2019 Winter Series: Over & Under – The theme of the winter 2019 series of Trails & Tales is “Over & Under,” inspired by the book series written by Kate Messner and illustrated by Christopher Silas Neal. Children (and their grownups!) will learn how animals use the world, both above and below the ground.

Tuesdays 10 – 11 AM, January 8, 2019 – February 12, 2019
Wednesdays 6 – 7 PM, January 9, 2019 – February 13, 2019

Bird Banding Workshops

Join us as we assist with an ongoing research and conservation project by catching, identifying, banding, and recording data on the birds of Wesselman Woods Nature Preserve. This unique, hands-on birding experience offers close-up encounters with wild birds. Workshops include demonstrations on banding techniques and bird identification. Participants often help release the birds into the wild. These workshops are free and are open to the public. See our calendar for upcoming workshop dates.

Nature Sleuthing

Drop by the nature center for short, family-friendly hikes and hands-on activities with Indiana Master Naturalist / Southwest Indiana Master Gardener Debbie Goedde. The program is free and no preregistration is required. See our calendar for upcoming dates.

Certified Backyard Wildlife Habitat Family Workshop

Cost is $25 per family, up to 4 people; $5 per each additional participant. Pre-registration is required. Space is limited.
